Synopsis
Max is an endlessly optimistic British civil servant who dreams of securing a prestigious diplomatic posting in Athens. Hunter Moretti is an American actor whose visa is about to expire. Their lives become connected when Max is unexpectedly abandoned by his date during an important state visit at Buckingham Palace. Max is competing with his ambitious colleague Quentin for the Athens position. After Quentin manipulates the seating arrangements and takes Max’s place beside the Greek ambassador, Max impulsively claims that he has a charming boyfriend whom everyone will meet at the next diplomatic event. The problem is that this boyfriend does not exist. Through his eccentric friend Doily, Max hires Hunter to pretend to be his partner. Hunter agrees because he needs money and hopes Max might help him remain in Britain. Although the two men are immediately attracted to each other, their personalities clash. Max is cheerful, trusting and determined to see the best in every situation, while Hunter is blunt, pessimistic and suspicious of other people’s motives. At the event, Hunter successfully performs the role of Max’s boyfriend…
