Conflict of Interest follows Finn Hayes, an ambitious young doctor who moves to New York to begin a general surgery residency at the prestigious Devon Memorial Hospital. Shortly before arriving, Finn is dumped by his boyfriend, Travis, who claims that Finn cares more about medicine than relationships. Determined to prove that he is still desirable, Finn visits a gay bar on his first night in the city. At the bar, Finn is mistaken for a sex worker because of his flirtatious clothes and confident behaviour. Instead of correcting the misunderstanding, he plays along and begins talking to Jesse Maddox, a handsome man several years older than him. Their teasing conversation leads to an intense one-night stand in Finn’s hotel room. Jesse leaves early the next morning, placing one hundred dollars and his phone number beside the bed because he still believes Finn is an escort.
