Synopsis
The Call-Up follows Brandon Bouchard, a closeted college hockey player who unexpectedly receives the opportunity of his life when the St. Louis Mules call him up near the end of the NHL season. The struggling team is attempting to secure its first playoff appearance in years, and Brandon is placed on a line with veteran forward Ryan Christianson—the man he has secretly loved since he was a teenager. Eight years earlier, Ryan lived with the Bouchard family while playing junior hockey alongside Brandon’s older brother, Ander. Ryan came from an unloving home and found security with the warm, affectionate Bouchards, who treated him like another son. During that time, Brandon developed a powerful crush on him. Ryan cared about Brandon too, but viewed him as Ander’s much younger brother and believed acting on any attraction would betray the family that had taken him in. After leaving Green Bay, Ryan distanced himself, while Brandon spent years believing his feelings had never been returned.
